Meego SDK installation

Hi.

From the little I've learned about Meego in the news, enticing application
developers to the Meego platform has been difficult. Now follows my rant (sorry
if you're easily offended)...

I can't get the Meego SDK to install, this isn't very surprising when you
realise I'm not running Windows or Fedora or Ubuntu or Debian. I use Gentoo.
I'm not asking why isn't my distribution supported (yet?), it shouldn't need to
be. The Android SDK integrates seamlessly with Eclipse and works with other
Software IDEs. I have already run "Hello World" on an Android Virtual Device
(AVD).

Aside from not being able to install the Meego SDK the request for root
privileges is rather disconcerting. It almost put me off there and then. Just
the thought of an armv7tej-unknown-linux-gnueabi glibc over-righting my glibc
that's the stuff of nightmares! The request for root privileges appears to be
to allow the installer application to use the system tools of a host
environment. As Meego is touted as a fully fledged operating system then
wouldn't you want to be able to use a Meego System as a development environment?
Please rethink your installer, this looks rather poor to me.

On to my question, can you help me install the Meego SDK please?

P.s. I started my Meego/Android app development quest yesterday.

Hi,

You mistunderstood the state of Meego SDK : It's a "preview".
There's still a lot of work needed.
I'm running archlinux which is not supported too... you can use a chroot
or a VirtualBox waiting the things to get better.

I think root privileges are needed because it uses the package manager
with specific repos to install most of the SDK and it will probably not
needed in future releases.

Hi.

Admittedly, I've just looked at all the pages I went through to download the SDK
and none of them mention it being a preview. Otherwise I take your point.

From google to:
https://meego.com/developers
https://meego.com/downloads/releases/1.2/meego-v1.2-sdk
http://developer.meego.com/meego-sdk
http://developer.meego.com/guides/getting-started/getting-started-meego-v1.2-sdk-linux

With regard to the root privileges I think your right. Chroot and VirtualBox
sound to much like hard work at the moment so I'm going to give wine a try...
Nearly a Canadian Cross but not quite.

I may try a chroot or VirtualBox another time.

Wine might take a while so I'll have to report any progress or success or more
likely failure later.

Thanks for the info.
