I guess it is running in QEMU right?
This one seems to be related to GL acceleration in QEMU for specific
images. Depending on how you start the image, you could just find the
QEMU option and remove the "-enable-gl". Then it should work for your
image.
There is a bug against that:

But the 1.1.2 image at the end of last year does not have such issue,
and I just tested the latest one in below link:

fonts seem to be correct as well. However, I did find some other issues
with the latest image. Just submitted another bug to track this. Thanks!
